Harper & Obama talking about the Flathead! Send them a message of encouragement NOW!

Harper & Obama to Help the Flathead!

The Wild Flathead needs your voice today!  Prime Minister Stephen Harper and President Barack Obama discussed the Flathead at the G20 meeting in Toronto this weekend.

Please take just one minute now to write Harper to urge him to work with Obama to strike a federal-to-federal agreement that will permanently protect the Flathead.

On the margins of the international summit meetings this weekend, Obama and Stephen Harper noted the historic February 2010 memorandum of understanding between Premier Gordon Campbell of British Columbia and Governor Brian Schweitzer of Montana protecting the transboundary Flathead River Basin.

They discussed how relevant U.S. and Canadian agencies, including the U.S. Department of the Interior and Environment Canada, working with representatives of the Province of British Columbia and the State of Montana, could support this understanding and could help ensure the sustained protection of the Flathead River Basin.

Please write Prime Minster Harper.  Tell him:

To work with President Obama to create a federal-to-federal agreement that permanently protects the Flathead.

Urge Harper to complete Waterton Lakes National Park by expanding into the B.C. Flathead

Steps to Permanent Protection

To protect the Flathead permanently, the B.C. government needs to agree to:

  1. A National Park in the south eastern one-third of the Flathead River Valley, adjacent to the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park and World Heritage Site.

  2. A Wildlife Management Area in the rest of the valley and adjoining habitat, to protect a Rocky Mountain wildlife corridor stretching from Glacier to Banff, Jasper and Kootenay National Parks. Learn more.
