Flathead Art Exhibit at the Canmore Public Library

Please join us for a stunning glimpse into B.C.'s wildest valley.

A unique mix of conservation and art, the Flathead Art Exhibit is coming to the Bow Valley! The exhibit will be on display at the Canmore Public Library from September 9 - 29, and will then move to the Banff Public Library where it will be displayed from October 1 - 25. Admission is free.

The exhibit was born in the summer of 2012, when 10 scientists and six artists descended on the Flathead to document its rare species and explore its natural beauty.

The trip resulted in 13 paintings from the Flathead, a region that has been described as one of the most ecologically important places on the planet.  The exhibit includes works from BC- based artists Laura Nelson, Tara Higgins, Joseph Cross, Denise Lemaster, and Simon Haiduk. It also features works from renowned Jackson Hole-based artist Dwayne Harty.

Flathead Wild Art Exhibit - Victoria

The En Plein Air Flathead Art Exhibition featuring 15 original paintings created in iconic and inspirational locations in the Flathead wilderness has arrived in British Columbia's capital city.  The exhibition, with acclaimed artists Dwayne Harty, Denise Lemaster, Simon Haiduk, Laura Nelson, Tara Higgins, and Joseph Cross will be showing at the Greater Victoria Public Library for the month of March.

As a Flathead Wild supporter, we’d like to invite you to join us for the Exhibition launch on Thursday March 5th at the Central Library Brach, downtown Victoria at 7:00pm. This exciting event will include conservation speakers including Dr. Peter Wood, Terrestrial Campaigns Director at the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society,  and will seek to generate a public discussion amongst attendees about the importance of conservation in the Flathead.

The Flathead Wild Team is extremely excited to be premiering this exhibition in Victoria, more than a year after it first opened at Waterton’s Wildlife Festival in September 2013. The exhibition has been stimulating public conversations about art and wildlife conservation in all the communities on the tour; Waterton Lakes, Fernie, Golden, Cranbrook, Canmore, Banff, and Pincher Creek, Alberta.

The Flathead River Valley may feel far away from the salty ocean air of Victoria, but these paintings capture the feeling and essence of one of the most biologically rich regions in North America the fate of which may be decided in the legislative capital of BC. With oil tankers, pipelines and logging of old growth forest threatening Vancouver Island, Victorians largely feel overwhelmed with the immediate local issues.  However, most Vancouver Islanders have incredible stories from Waterton Lakes National Park, Glacier National Park in Montana, or nearby wilderness landscapes to the Flathead. Once aware of the threats facing the biodiversity of the Flathead or the purity of the water, Victorians ask “What can I do?” without missing a beat.

Please join us for this inspiring evening of  raising awareness through art in order to amplify the public voice that says, “Protect it and connect it!” for a National Park and Wildlife Management Area in the Flathead River Valley.
